Call For Nominations: 2025 Tom & Anne Moore Peace and Justice Award

 ECM Seeks Nominations for the Tom and Ann Moore Peace and Justice Award


The Ecumenical Campus Ministry (ECM) seeks nominations for an individual and a community organization whose work exemplifies the group’s goals of peace, mutual respect, and generosity.  The Tom and Anne Moore Peace and Justice Award will be given to individuals and organizations whose work on a local, national, or international level has advanced peace and justice.  All Douglas County residents and organizations are eligible for the award.

Nominations are to be made in the form of a letter, not to exceed 250 words, describing the person or organization’s contribution to peace and justice.  Supporting documentation such as newspaper stories or endorsements may be included. Those submitting nominations are asked to include their names and phone numbers.  

Nominations can be emailed amamaus@gmail.com with Moore Award in the subject line, or mailed to ECM, 1204 Oread Ave, Lawrence, KS 66044. Nomination deadline is August 25, 2025.  

Nominees not previously awarded, may be nominated again with the approval of the nominee.  Winners will receive their awards at a to be announced program.

The Tom and Anne Peace and Justice Award

  Tom and Anne lived in Lawrence from 1960 to 1983. Tom was director of KU-Y for at least 10 years and then he served on the Kansas Civil Rights Commission and worked for the state Office of Equal Opportunity. Anne was an active volunteer and ran the Volunteer Clearinghouse for Vista. To list all the various things they did for the Lawrence community would take more time than we have. And they had worked wonders of peace and justice before they moved to town, and still more after they left it. But were here today because they were among the original founders of the Lawrence Coalition for Peace and Justice. So when the Peace Coalition decided to create an award for local activists the Moores were the logic people to be remembered for their deeds and their presence.
